Common wall problems

Under-insulated walls cost you comfort and money

You usually feel it before you see it. Here's what poorly insulated walls do to a home.

Uncomfortable rooms

Cold spots, drafts, and uneven temperatures make it hard to stay comfortable no matter where you set the thermostat.

Moisture & mold

Condensation building up inside cold wall cavities can damage finishes and lead to mold over time.

High energy bills

Poorly insulated walls let heat pour out in winter and in during summer — so your system never gets a break.

Noise pollution

Thin, empty wall cavities let street and neighbour noise straight through, disrupting the quiet at home.

Lower property value

Well-insulated, energy-efficient homes sell for more — and buyers increasingly ask about it.

Wasted energy

Every unit of heat that leaks through your walls is money — and carbon — going to waste.

Wall vs attic insulation

Why both matter

Stopping heat loss at the ceiling only solves part of the problem — heat leaves your home in every direction.

Attic insulation

Handles vertical heat loss — the warm air that naturally rises and escapes straight through your ceiling.

  • Biggest single source of heat loss
  • Qualifies for Ontario rebates up to $1,250
  • Best first upgrade for most homes

Wall insulation

Handles horizontal heat loss — the cold that comes through the large surface area of your exterior walls.

  • Kills drafts and cold-wall discomfort
  • Adds noticeable soundproofing
  • Keeps comfort in and winter out

Questions

Wall insulation, answered

How do I know if my walls are under-insulated?

Usually you feel it before you see it: cold walls, drafty rooms, uneven temperatures, and higher energy bills. On the assessment we check your exterior walls with thermal imaging to confirm and pinpoint the problem areas.

Will you need to tear down my drywall?

In most cases, no. Wall insulation upgrades are usually done from the exterior or through small, strategic openings that we patch afterward — so your interior stays largely untouched.

What type of insulation do you use for walls?

It depends on your wall construction and goals. For existing walls we commonly use dense-pack insulation; for open or new walls, batt or rigid insulation. We recommend the right fit on the assessment.

How long does a wall insulation project take?

Most single-family homes are completed in one to two days, depending on size and access.

Will this help with summer heat as well as winter cold?

Yes. Insulation slows heat flow in both directions, so well-insulated walls keep you warmer in winter and cooler in summer — year-round comfort, not just a winter fix.

Is wall insulation messy or disruptive?

We plan the job to be as clean and non-invasive as possible. Floors and belongings are protected, dust is managed, and any access openings are repaired before we leave.

Good wall insulation keeps comfort in and winter out.
