Common garage problems

Garage problems we solve

An uninsulated garage is a hole in your home's thermal envelope. Here's how that shows up.

Uneven temperatures

Rooms above and beside the garage swing hot and cold with the seasons.

Cold floors above the garage

Heat escapes through the garage ceiling, leaving the bedroom or bonus room above it chilly underfoot.

High energy bills

An uninsulated garage enlarges the area your furnace and AC have to fight against.

Moisture & condensation

Cold surfaces invite condensation — and the mold and rust that can follow.

Unusable garage space

Seasonal extremes make it hard to use the garage as a workshop, gym, or reliable storage.

Air leaks & drafts

Air moving through the garage finds its way into your living areas, carrying cold and fumes with it.

Questions

Garage insulation, answered

Do you insulate the garage door?

Yes. We can add panel insulation kits to many existing doors, and for the best result we also offer insulated door replacement with continuous R-value and better weather sealing.

What's the best insulation for a garage — spray foam, batts, or blown-in?

For most retrofits we recommend closed-cell spray foam in the walls and rim joists plus blown-in (cellulose or fibreglass) in the ceiling. Closed-cell gives superior air and vapour control and high R-value per inch, while blown-in fills irregular spaces efficiently.

Will garage insulation warm the bedroom above?

Yes. Insulating the garage ceiling and sealing the rim joists typically raises the floor temperature of the room above by several degrees in winter — one of the most-noticed results.

What R-value should I aim for?

As a guide: roughly R-12 to R-22 for 2×4 walls, R-31 to R-50 for ceilings and attic spaces, and about R-10 continuous on replacement doors. We size everything to code and your space on the assessment.

Is spray foam safe in a garage?

Yes, when installed by certified technicians, properly cured, and covered with the required fire/ignition barrier. We handle the ventilation and finishing details so it meets code.

How long does a garage insulation job take?

Most projects are completed in one day. Larger or finished garages, or jobs that include a door replacement, may take one to two days.

Consistent fill, not spotty insulation.
